Urban Immigrant is an ode to my grandmother, Marie Immaculee Cantave. She was named after Mother Mary. She left Haiti in the 1970s not because she needed to escape, but to embrace a new life in the US. Coming from a prominent family, she wasn't fleeing hardship but pursuing opportunity. My grandmother was the first person to introduce me to Christianity. She lived for Jesus with unwavering faith.
The name “Urban Immigrant” symbolizes her journey and those of biblical figures like Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the Israelites. They left their homes to fulfill God's plan. The absence of an “s” in immigrant highlights the individual nature of each journey.
The words "Urban" and "Immigrant" often carry negative connotations, but to me, they represent the grit, resilience, and hard work required in our walk with God. It’s about picking up our cross daily and persevering through faith.
This brand is a tribute to my grandmother's legacy and a reflection of the strength and faith we all carry on our individual journeys.
